Today we're diving into the wonderful world of goal setting. Setting goals isn’t just about writing down a few dreams—it’s about crafting a clear path to make those dreams come true. Here are five reasons why goal setting is so crucial:

How to Write Achievable Goals

Most of us know what goals are, but achieving them is another story. A goal is an ambition or a desired result—something you want to achieve. For example, one of my goals is to lose 5kg by the end of September. We all have goals, but often they remain just that—goals—because we lack a concrete action plan. That’s where frameworks like SMART goals come in handy.



What are SMART Goals?

SMART is an acronym to help you set goals that are clear and attainable. Here’s a breakdown of what each letter stands for:


  • Specific: Your goal should be clear and straightforward. Vague goals are hard to work towards. Ask yourself:

  • What exactly do I want?

  • Why is this goal important to me?

  • Who is involved in achieving this goal?

  • Where is it located?

  • Which resources or limits are involved?

  • Measurable: Your goal needs to be quantifiable. Use numbers, deadlines, or percentages. For my weight loss goal, I can track progress by stepping on the scale weekly.


  • Achievable: Your goal should be challenging yet realistic. If it’s too easy, it won't be satisfying. If it’s too hard, it might be discouraging. Find a balance that stretches your abilities.

  • Relevant: Your goal should align with your broader aspirations. Ask yourself:

  • Why is this goal important?

  • How does it fit with my overall plans?

  • How committed am I to achieving it?


  • Time-bound: Every goal needs a deadline. Without a timeframe, you might procrastinate. Think about:

  • What urgent factors affect the deadline?

  • Is the deadline realistic?

  • How much time can you dedicate to achieving this goal?

  • What obstacles might arise, and how can you address them?
